The Power of IGBT in Induction Melting
Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor technology, or IGBT, is considered to be the most effective and efficient induction melting technology. Many, if not most, induction furnaces used in the metal melting industry utilize IGBT technology. This particular industry can reap great benefits from using this type of technology in its induction furnaces – including efficiency, cleanliness, and control.
IGBT technology is fairly new, with its first generation devices coming in the 1980s and early 1990s. The technology is now in its third generation which also happens to be its best generation given its speed and power.
IGBT is also useful for induction melting because of its high pulse rate. This high pulse rate allows the technology to generate large power pulses. Such large power pulses are necessary, especially in effecting the stirring action that is essential to metal and gold melting.
Induction melting is cleaner because the melted material does not need to be purified after it is melted. Additionally, this method is safe and cost-effective. Melting by induction continues to be a cost-effective with use of IGBT technology. Induction furnace manufacturers have begun to use this technology because of the advantages it has over the traditional methods of melting metal.
Compared to older methods, such as a traditional furnace, an induction furnace utilizing IGBT technology is not only more efficient, but is also easier to operate. Such ease of use means more time can be spent on metal melting rather than ensuring the furnace is operating correctly. Another cost-effective feature is the fact that IGBT technology coupled with the induction furnace allows for loss prevention.
In the Induction melting furnace temperature control can be done easily and furnace will never heat the material higher than required temperature therefore, there is no loss of alloying elements – something of value to any metal melting business.
